Sunday I went in and worked the Honda Booth at the Edmonton Show. Nothing new for my life really, I try to go every year and help out. What was new was the '14 Valkrie, the CTX1300T (which wasn't available here in Alberta's shows but will be in Vancouver) and the star of the show (IMO) the new Limited Edition CBR1000RR SP. Gawd what a gorgeous bike! One of my Toronto pals/reps has a drop dead gorgeous daughter that was helping out and I was so enthralled with the bike and taking photos of it that until she came over and tapped me on the shoulder to say hi I didn't even notice her standing there. No s**t, I really didn't see her, and that's no easy thing, she litterally is a beauty! Anyway back to the CBR. I'm a sucker for the HRC colours, but the goodies on this thing had me salivating from the first look. I can see Michael Dunlop and John McGuinness running specially prepped units of these for this year's road racing season (McGuinness is reportedly already working on one). How exclusive is this bike? VERY: 16 in total for Canada (3 here in Alberta and they are apparently already spoken for), and I here rumours of less than 100 for the US. Price: $18,999 Cdn, no release on US pricing but the SP is a $3k premium up here so add $2500 to the other CBR and you'll be close. Here's spome photos

Like I said, her father is a good friend of mine, can't bring myself to go there:eek:
I did post a picture last year of her (and her two em, homely associates) from the 2012 December dealer show in Toronto. She was a cutie then, but she's an absolute knockout now. She's in the middle, was 17 then...legal now but not for an old geezer like me:eek:

Now that's a great looking bike. I just may have to work that scheme onto my track fairings

Saw the same bike at Tokto Auto Salon (Even though it's not relevant they had a bike stand, incl. Marquez' GP bike on display too (Now that's always a bike worth gawping at for aaaaages!!) :D

I didn't find the HRC blade that exciting myself. Ohlins forks and shock, Brembo front calipers and a few other bits & pieces, but the wheels were just a different colour to the stock CBR1000RR, rubber brake hoses, plastic clutch cover, etc. There would be a LOT to change even though it's an HRC special, supposedly! Even the rear caliper and rearsets were just standard items! I asked how much it weighed, but as it wasn't yet released they couldn't tell me, but it's somewhere around 200kg judging by the stock bike. Just a few bits added from other manufacturers to make it an "HRC" bike, but in reality there's not all that much changed. I'll stick to my piggy which is now lighter than this new piggy anyways. :p

Sexiest new porn bikes to me are the BMW HP4 S1000RR and the Ducati Panigale 1199R.
Now these, each nearing 200 bhp are seriously nice (A twin with that much power... sheesh!) with lots of interesting new technology, especially the Ducati! But I still wouldn't give up miss piggy for them either. The new technology is great, but not as tinker friendly....which is half the fun. Long term - I'd be weary of Italian engineering too, if not BMW's judging from the history with S1000R's... ;)

Stig I hear what you're saying, but I really do like this bike. While all the electronic geegaws have their place on modern superbikes, there's something to be said for a pure rider's machine. Remember, this is a Honda "production bike" just as ours were back in the day; it's not meant to outrun the Panigale or the S1000rr, they are a different breed of cat and definitely in their own league. And take a look at the Panigale R price!
Not one existing (or new release) litre bike can be ridden on the street or public roads to even half their full potential, let alone most of us Joe Blow skill level average doods. But I could really dig the new SP if it were able to be mine. Would NOT give up my 'piggy' for one either though. Nor would I spend the bucks for even the standard CBR which I could likely ride as well/spiritedly as the CBR-SP...which is to say at legal (kaff, kaff, wink) pace on the local roads and/or in the mountains. I wouldn't spend new price for an RC either for that matter. I can't justify it in my life right now, I don't have the available time to ride one enough, much as I would love to.
I still say even if it's not really anything super special, it's pretty rad for ultra conservative Mother Honda. I'm actually still waiting for the RC1000V...but this one sure fills the dream gap for now.

TD, we (the Honda crew) all make sure she isn't hassled by the gawkers and pervs when she's doing her thing at the display venues, she's well protected at all times.

For sure, I'm the same budoka and agree with what you're saying. Guess I was just a little disappointed Honda had used HRC to market what's really just a production CBR1000RR with a few bolt-ons from other manufacturers to make it different from the "cooking" version. As such it didn't seem that special to me, really.
