I'm thinking about getting a RC51. What should I be looking for and looking out for? I've owned sport bikes before but never a V-Twin, and I currently have a dual sport, but really want to get back on a sport bike. Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the forum! Just watch for the usual care and maintenance like with any bike. RC's are pretty bullit proof. No real flaws to look for that I know of.

Edit: some early sp1s had fuel tank leaking issues down by the hinge point. Might watch for that.

take a look inside, make sure the wiring isn't all hacked up. Most issues that occur with this bike are electrical. So save yourself some trouble and start with a bike with an uncut/unmodified wiring harness.
As for the fuel tank issue, this can also be true. 2 things to look for. You can subtly smell fuel when standing outside around the bike, and on one side of the fuel tank (usually left) on the bottom of the tank where its indented and sits on top of the frame, you will see dirty grease or wet dirt towards the back of the hinge. This is caused from dirt and dust clinging onto the fuel and forming a type of oiley mess. if you dont see this swipe your finger on the inside of the frame towards the back of the tank where the hinge is. If it has a leak youll feel this gritty oily mess in there. Now i believe this is more prevalant on SP1's (2000-2001), mine had one.

Welcome to the forums, there are some nice clean RC's out there for a good price.
Once you ride that bike and throw some aftermarket cans on it and feel and hear that twin, you will have a hard time riding I4's from then on.
