what is the stock size for the chain on a sp1? Found the product # DID 50VA8. I've also heard for a superbike you're going to want to lean to a 530. But on the other hand I've heard of alot of people of doing the 520 conversion. It's time to do the chain on my RC so I might as well do the sprockets. So helping clear up this matter would be appreciated.

can anyone tell me if this is accurate?

530
3/8" wide rollers on the chain
0.343" thick sprockets

520
1/4" wide rollers on the chain
0.227" thick sprockets

Does this apply for all chains and if so, what the hell does that mean (in other words, how do you measure)??? Excuse the ignorance all you experts, but sometimes breaking it down barney style makes a little more sense, thanks in advance.

Also did the SP1 come stock with a 530 chain?

All the numbers are in increments of 1/8".

The first number is the pitch or center to center distance of the link.
So the 5 in 530 is 5 x 1/8" or 5/8" (.625").
The other two numbers are the width of the rollers in increments of 1/8".
So 30 is 3.0 x 1/8" or 3/8" (.375".).

So a 520 chain is 5/8" pitch with 2/8" (1/4") width.

Both SP1 and SP2 came with 530 chains stock.

So in your opinion with a torque bike like the RC would you recommend the 520 conversion?

Most riders go with a 520 for track use as a 520 chain is a bit lighter than a 530.
You can use a 520, 525, or 530 chain with your bike.
The 530 chain for an SP2 weighs around 4 lbs. You might lose a pound going with a 520.

I have no idea what the wear rates are for the various chain widths.
Since I use mine mostly for the street, I went with the 530 chain.
So far it's lasted thousands of miles with hardly any need to adjust it.
And that's been over two years now.

Many new bikes these days have gone to 525 chains as OEM supplied.
