I have been having issues with my sp1 eating batteries since I have had it. Replace the battery 4 times in a 1year. I had it checked by Honda and they claimed there were no faults in the wiring. But last night I was switching the solo hangers out for the factory passenger pegs and as I was removing one of the bolts on the left hand side.. boom! Fireworks! So I discovered that the bolt was screwed in beyond the inside face of the subframe. It had eaten into the main positive cable. I am assuming that this is what was causing the batteries to die and I am surprised the Honda didn't discover this. So I insulated the cable and the bike turns on and starts but runs like crap and the fi light is blinking 8 times. Anyone know what the 8 code is?

TPS. throttle position sensor. You need to remove the airbox to check the connector, but if you're lucky, it's just a loose, or maybe your sensor wire is chaffed like your battery cable was.

I will definitely check the fuses first regardless because I despise removing the airbox on an rc... ugh

that makes sense. I'm getting the blinks from just turning the key on... I haven't bridge any connectors to get it.. still the same?

I don't understand what you're asking.
Do you mean will anything change if you bridge the service connector?
If that's the question, the answer is no. And yes.
You'll probably discover some old stored codes from previous settings. But it won't change anything that the bike is doing now.

I would persue inspecting the TPS connector, and the wires involved. I would clean the connector, dielectric grease, reconnect, make sure tps wires are ok, then start the bike back up. With the sidestand down. Does the MIL still blink the code 8? (You'll probably get a code 9 too, but don't worry about that - it's the AIT which you'll hook back up when you put the airbox back together)
I put my bike all back together before I tried starting it. My code 8 went away so I erased all previous codes and all was normal again.

Thanks my last question was just this.... will I get the same code when I bridge into dealer mode as I am now? Because right now.. the stand is down and it powers up as usual but when I start the engine that's when the fi light gives me the 8s blinks.

Ok, then the FI light (which is the MIL- malfunction indicator lamp) is telling you it still has a problem with the TPS.
For instance, when I would get a code 8, it was always on a rough bumpy stretch of road. I could shut the bike down, restart, and no more blinking. Until I hit more rough bumps, then it would come back on. In my case, it was just a loose faulty connection that needed cleaning.
You may have a chaffed wire touching the bike, since you say it continues to run rough and blinks again upon start-up. Or the sensor may have gone bad.
You're at a point where inspection is needed in order to proceed.

Yes there are definitely some wires that are in need of care.. that is what has caused allot of trouble on this bike I believe.. thank for your input. :)
