Interesting comment in September Performance Bikes in an article about Dave Hancock, who Honda seem to hold in high regard, who says:

"Even spacers make a difference. We never finished the SP-1 properly because we had to get it into production. If you ride If you ride an SP normally it's fine, but ride it a bit harder and it starts to understeer and run wide. The biggest change was very small. We changed the spacers in the front wheel. On the SP-1 they were flat, on the SP-2 they had a taper, and that gave the bike much more flex and cured the understeer".

Annoyingly I've just bought (but not so annoyingly, I haven't yet fitted) a set of f+r Aluminum captive spacers to reduce weight but I bet they aren't tapered...

But I wonder if fitting SP-2 spacers in an SP-1 will be useful?
(I also wonder if Honda list the two parts as separate numbers? Hmmmmm....)

that seems pretty far fetched to me.

how are tapered spacers going to offer flex? the whole front axle assembly is rigidly mounted between the fork bottoms.

and i haven't seen this "taper" on the wheel spacers
