FANTASTIC outcome!

Edit: Whoops I posted this too soon ... Let me change that to "Better than nuthin'" outcome. Now he's got a piecemeal bike that is prob worth next to nuthin on the market ... but at least he has a bike to ride. Although he said he canceled insurance on it because he doesn't ride it anymore ... so yeah, screwed over.

Ugh, what a disheartening story. It's no Ducati, but my 2005 CBR 600 F4i was stolen from my driveway a few years ago. I can only hope that the person/people who stole it slipped in a puddle of AIDS and died a slow, painful death. But for this guy...to be so close to getting his bike back for so many months but then being told he has to dismantle it is some uber B.S. I guess crime does pay, at least in the Pac-NW.

It's heartbreaking to see that after months he was so close to sticking it to the bad guy, then...:(

Some good points in there about detailed pics and records of your own bike!
I have hundreds of picss of my bikes stored on my pc just for this reason, although i carry full coverage i would always want the bike back:cool:

I skimmed through the entire thread; was glad the bike was located/recovered and that the owner was re-united with most of his old bike (if I understood it correctly, most of his bike's parts were swapped over to a new frame by the thief).

Made me mad that the prosecutor's office isn't actively pursuing charges against the thief. Although the mention of "chop shop" in there makes me think that he was part of a larger organization (speculation). Wondering if he rolled on other guys, possibly bigger fish up the food chain to get a lenient deal/work off his charges by giving up info to an auto/motor-theft squad or something.

Hopefully karma will catch up to the thief later on...
