hey im new here.
I just bought RC-51 couple days ago.
Its got aftermarket undertail(fenderless kit), LED integrated tail lamp, and racing tail cowl.

I tried to wire a 4-pin LED for the license plate, and i got power from tail lamp. But I only put diode and didnt put resisters so it blew the LED.

Can any body tell me what kind of resister(what ohm?) i should get?
Or any advise for the license plate lamp?

thanks

Welcome to the group!!

I've got an aftermarket undertail as well, and it hasn't affected the LEDs at all.
The only issue is the quick blink rate as I didn't install load resistors.
And I figured the quick blink rate might get the local geezers attention better (well hopefully).
Did it blow the LED or did it blow the fuse?
If you do a front to back check on the LED, do you get a short or open in both directions?

oh i should explain better.
The tail lamp, brake lamp and both blinkers works fine.
But in my state, the license plate lamp is required, which i dont have right now.
I just wanted to make it cool in the dark.

So heres the problem again.
I got the power from blue wire(which is the hot wire for the tail lamp), and placed a silicon diode, and then wired to LED and LED to grounding.
but the LED lit like blue(LED itself was white) and it blue. i tried with 2pin LED, and same thing happened. So i figured that the current is too strong.
Any advise?

What sort of white LED are you using for the tail lamp?
Many aftermarket ones have the current limiting resistor integrated into the lamp.
I've tried two different types with no problem.
My issue is only esthetics, not function.

I just bought a single one of those light up plate light bolts, screwed it through the undertail and ran it off the wiring for the stock plate light. It was like $6 or something...

That's similar to what I'm playing around with.
They come either chrome or black.
I've had no issues with it blowing, I'm just looking around for other options.

I got the power from tail lamp and made it work.

Power-Diode-Resistor(47-ohm)x3-LEDx3

It worked with just 1 resistor but i was afraid of burning the LED again
