hey just wanted to make a quick thread to brag about my new purchase!

just bought a 2003 RC51 on my birthday 2 days ago. this thing is a beast and i am loving it so far!

it has a bit of minor damage to the fairings but its not rashed up just cracked around the handlebars which has been rattle canned to match paint. previous owner changed the exhaust to a single sided high mount because the carbon fibers that were on got jacked up when it was laid down and their is a small dent in the tank but that all justified the $3500 price.

its def. been to the track. one of the previous owners changed the gearing to 1 up 4 down for shifting so that is taking some getting used to. i havent had a bike for 6 years and the last was a ZX6 but with such a gap its made learning the gearing a little easier. took the MSF riding class and got my license in the mail same day i picked up the beast.

so new bike, new forum... anything you guys can let me know about the RC51 would be appreciated! im stoked!

Welcome. I live just up the street about 100 miles in Sacramento.
Nice present to yourself my friend! Yea, that sounds like a good deal, especially for the bay area, they have the highest asking prices in CA, imo.
Probably pretty hilly in your area, huh? You may think about changing your sprockets to a -1+2 or +3. It'll make your bike much more managable if your doing any kind of stop and start traffic in all the hills you have there. Just a thought.
You got a Corbin? seat on there too, that's nice after the first hundred miles or so of a long ride!

Welcome to the forum. That is a nice way to celebrate your birthday. I am just east of you in Modesto. Frame sliders is a good idea and be glad you dont have the plank that they call a stock seat.

Yes Welcome to the forum and nice buy. A powercommander might also be a good investment in addition to the twin pipes. dont see many single exhaust RC-51s out there.

seller gave me the stock pipes with the purchase... sounds like a demon the way it is though. i always liked the way the duel looked.

Being in the Bay Area I think you should check another forum; BayAreaRidersForum.com, BARF. Check there but people tend to jump on things rather quickly on that forum. I have only used the Michelin Pilot Power 2CT and Pilot Power and I like them both. Good luck finding take-offs.

Ive run Q2's and Really happy with them. But I've not ridden in rain, or wet conditions hardly at all, so I don't know how they fare in wet.
Next spring I'll install a set of Michilen 2ct Power Pure's I just bought on sale.
