Not too much:

1) Throttle body sizes-SP2 is larger.
2) Paint designs vary- '03 is the best design;)
3) Wheels are different.
4) SP1s are known to has gas tank leaks.
5) Exhaust pipes are different- SP2 are D shaped.
6) Swing arm is different.
7) SP1s have a radiator sensor on the Lt side.
8) Fairing stay is a different color.
9) Front forks are different.

Parts for SP1s are getting more difficult to find, especially high end exhausts. (You and have some made for a couple G's);)

I am sure there is something I missed, but someone will come along sooner or later to add to the list.

Most of the differences between the two variants are under the skin.
As stated previously,
1) SP2 has 62mm throttle bodies vs 54mm on SP1.
2) SP2 frame has gussets near the steering head to stiffen that area.
3) SP2 swingarm is lighter, longer, and shaped differently than SP1.
4) SP2 had slightly steeper rake than SP1.
5) SP2 has aluminum upper cowl brace vs steel on SP1.
6) SP2 brake rotors are .5mm thicker than SP1.
7) SP2 front calipers and master cylinder have different diameter pistons than SP1.
8) SP2 has D-shaped exhaust ports vs. round ports on SP1.
9) SP2 has lighter OEM wheels than SP1 wheels.
10) SP2 has two radiator fans vs. one for SP1.
11) SP2 has redesigned subframe over SP1.
12) SP2 has centralized battery and ECU placement vs SP1
13) SP2 forks are slightly lighter than SP1 forks.
14) SP2 has larger steering stem diameter than SP1
15) SP2 has smaller diameter swingarm pivot bolt than SP1.
And so on...

The differences are minor, but can impact parts interchange in certain areas.

thanks again for all the info, y'all.....

subsailor, we should hang sometime...plus after being and ex-'canoe clubber', i know for a fact if you were a subsailor, you gotta be crazy!!!... i live in palm harbor, used to have a chick in sarasota back in the day, used to work there some...... at least before gas was $4 a gallon, ha ha.....

just came back from a jennings weekend, and after seeing all the bikes, it's the natural progression of things to look at everything possible on craigslist.... which i have no bizness $$$ doing.....
