My RC51 Friends,

I noticed a small coolant leak at the left rad hose this past winter. So, I decided to remove this L-Shaped hose and see what was causing the leak. The hose looks ok, but I think I will replace it with a new one for caution sake.

Anyway, I spilled quite a bit of coolant on the stator housing, rubber hoses, some aluminum misc parts, etc. Will this coolant damage any of the parts mentioned?

Does Samco or whomever sell that one hose, or do you have to purchase the entire hose kit?

Now that I drained a good amount of coolant from that area, will it be a top up in the reservoir, or is there a procedure to ensure there are not airlocks and such?

Just complete a flush and fill with approved motorcycle coolant. You have it this far apart, you may as well just do the job right.

I have never seen Samco sell their stuff as individuals, only the kit. You may have to call them to see if they would.

Both my RC's have had issues with minor leaks, but it was a simple tightening of the hose clamps. My SP2 never leaked in NC, but dripped a little when I moved to UT.

I would probably just try tightening before replacing.

Not sure if coolant will cause a problem, but don't think it will...not like brake/clutch fluid (ruins paint on plastics)

Refill coolant through radiator first...run the bike for a bit, then blip the throttle a few times. Shut off bike and air bubbles will clear. Fill, then cover...after that add to the reserve reservoir. I believe that was what the service manual states.

You know to burb the cooling system right?

For the original post or me? To burp, you mean to get the air out right? The service manual states to "blip" the throttle a few times to remove air...at least that is what I remember reading.

On the left side, you have an overflow container. If that overfills, it leaks a little.
You need to pull the fairings, and have a good look.

As far as will the coolant stain your stator cover?, that depends entirely on what was in the radiator and how hot it was when it hit the stator cover.

Get your cooling system burped for air bubbles, then top off radiator. After bike has cooled for 4 hours or more, topoff radiator again and fill overflow container to about 1/3 full.

Pulled the fairing and it was the lower rad hose, the only hose I saw on the left side anyway. I removed the hose and the engine has not been started since November 2013 since I fogged the cylinders, removed spark pugs, etc.

I am looking at Samco for hoses, but I am unsure as to whether or not they sell individual ones.
