Apparently my Pistons on my 42k mile motor have been ceased...
I had a shop adjust my valves and do a diagnostics for my starting issue.
They concluded that it was the pistons and cylinders... I have an 02 Rc51 and that bike has too much centimental value for me to just sell.

I want this bike running...
Im looking for a cheaper/sufficient route to get my bike running.
Money is tight, but I will do whatever it takes to get it running

Should I buy a new motor with a lot less miles, or pay for my motor to be rebuilt?

hi ram, i would either buy a honda service manual or download it, so you can see how much work is involved. if you're not comfortable doing the work yourself, then you can get estimates from the shop or other shops on rebuilding or swapping. i would assume that the shop you brought your bike to should have already gave you an estimate and parts list on rebuilding? i think it's going to be expensive either way because paying someone else to do the work gets pricey.
when you rebuild a motor, you will know the parts are replaced with new parts, when swapping a motor, you don't know. i think you should get a couple estimates and then you can weigh your options. hope that helps

I would definitly start shopping around for prices for both. a rebuild can get very very expensive depending on the damage from the lock up. but then again you would learn more by rebuild.

So I got a quote to have my engine rebuilt, and the mechanics were saying that it would be about 1800 just in labor. Plus parts, who knows how much since they would have to find out what exactly needs to be replaced on my 42xxx mile motor.

So i bought an 03 rc51 motor with 8xxx miles on it. Cost me 730$, and another 725$ to swap motors. Hopefully she runs normal again! :)
