After months of searching for an oem left radiator for my 01 I decided to break down and buy the eBay gpi aftermarket for 180 bux. The problem I have is the coolant sensor that threads into the radiator is smaller than the threaded receptacle on the new gpi rad that I purchased. Any suggestions?

Yeah I do not see one either in the parts diagram. Maybe two options. First use a reducer bushing. Second weld a plug in the hole. Then re-drill and tap for right size.

I just installed my rad on my SP1, and it was shipped with an aluminum plug for the temp sensor. I added some thread sealant, snugged up the plug, and added a migh-current mini-switch so I can turn the fan on and off at will. I always run with the temp gauge up on the display, so I don't worry about forgetting to turn it on.

That SP1 temp sensor is also the switch that activates the fan, so be sure you have it installed.
There is always + power to the fan when the key switch is on.
When the coolant gets hot enough, the thermal sensor/switch allows the ground to complete the circuit and kick on the fan.
The SP2 works differently.

I was under the impression the sp2 did not have the sensor in the radiator.
It doesn't. SP2's have an engine coolant sensor (ECT) that is mounted in the thermostat housing.
It sends a signal to the ECU which then actuates the fan relay to power both fans.

SP1's use a simple bi-metallic temperature switch mounted in the radiator.
