Hi All

New to the site (just brought a 2000 RC51 needing minor repair) and been searching for Hot-bodies wiring help - wiring is not my strong point and confused on the follow:

  1. Hot-bodies undertail has 4 wires per light (8 in total) BUT
  2. Stock Brake light and Indicators is a total 10 Wires. 3 on each Tail light and 2 on each Indicator
Being a complete novice at wiring and the Hotbodies very poor instructions I am kind of lost. I also note most folks talk about changing the LED's out to the UNIVERSAL ROUND LED CLUSTER with the 4 wire conversion kit so any pointers here would be awesome!

Cheers
Simon

Welcome Simon. Sorry to say but I'm an electro-tard myself but there are some real sharp cookies here that may be able to assist you in this. LDH, Wibbly to name just a couple. My SP2 is all track and I only run a brake light and that was easy peasy for me.

don't look at the number of wires.

black/brown = rear running light and license plate light
green/yellow = rear brake light

orange = left indicator
blue = right indicator

green = ground

there are 3 black/browns in the back of the bike, are all spliced together locally. you only need to use one of them

there are 2 green/yellows, they are spliced together, you only need to use one

there are 5 greens, they are all spliced together, you only need to use one.

don't over think this, it's very very simple.

the hotbodies will have a wire for right signal, connect that to blue. the wire for the left signal connect to orange. the two wires for running lights connect to black/brown, the two wires for brake lights connect to green/yellow, the two ground wires connect to green.

that's all. couldn't be easier.

Just curious what the best way to splice these very small wires together. I don't have a hotbodies undertail but I do have "led" lights and have had to reconnect some of the wires that came loose on mine. The wires are so small that they easily pull apart when spliced/crimped together. I have been using the smallest gage connectors I can find and it is difficult to make the connection and not have them easily pull loose. Any suggestions appreciated because I am electrically "challenged".

buy connectors at cycleterminal.com and a cheap crimp tool. then build your own.

the entire rear section of the bike could be handled with a single 5 pin connector.

For simplification...

connect the right (blue wire) and left signal (orange wire) wires on the bike to the respective left and right orange wires on the undertail.

connect the ground wires (green) to the black wires on the undertail

connect the brake wires (green w/yellow tracer) to the red wires on the undertail

connect the running light wires (brown) to the blue wires

Unless the Hot Bodies kit has an integrated relay, you may want to invest in a LED flasher relay. Otherwise you get the hyperflash effect when you use your turn signals.

I installed one of these https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/flashers-load-resistors/electronic-led-flasher-relays-for-motorcycle/787/842/ when I switched my signals to LEDs

I'm a newbie as well, bought my first RC51 SP1 in November. Been sitting on the Undertail kit for a while waiting for things to warm up in Michigan...
