Discussion Starter #1
Having problems starting my 2000 RC51. When I turn the key, the dash lights up and lights come on. When I press the starter button, the Regulator/Rectifier makes a loud error like sound (ERRRRRR) but nothing else happens. Battery is fairly new and has full charge. Planning on testing starter and solenoid but wondering if anyone has experienced this before and knows what the fix is to save me the trouble of taking the bike apart? Thanks

It's the solenoid not the reg/rec making the noise, poor connections on the battery, solenoid or ground will cause it, as will a defective battery or burned out solenoid

Do you hear the fuel pump prime for about 2 seconds? If not, I'd check fuel cut relay and bank angle relay. They interchange with the high-beam relay for testing.
I suspect @dansp1 is on to the culprit tho. Check your starter relay (which happens to be a unique relay - wont interchange with any others on the bike) This relay has a 30 amp fuse, check it too.
