I had to swap a Right SP2 radiator to my SP1.
I bought it hoping the attached fan would fit and I could wire it in. The OEM fan doesn't fit because of the SP1's oil cooler location. But the tabs are there for a spal fan in the future.

This only works for a Right radiator. You CANT effectively swap a Left radiator from SP2 to SP1. Don't ask. Forget it. You can't. :)


First two pictures shows what my Rt.rad looked like after a little digger I took a few weeks ago.






The SP2 is on left, SP1 on the right. The bottom mounting tab off the SP1 rad has to be mounted to the SP2 rad. It's held on with a soft aluminum rivet, and adhesive.



I filed the rivet head off and popped the bracket off.


Then I mocked up the SP2 rad on the bike and positioned the bracket. I scribed around it and marked the center hole to drill for a rivet.

Then I carefully drilled the hole small enough for a small temporary screw. You don't want to F up and punch through to the cooling row with the drill.
Next I used contact cement, let it set, then secured it with a screw overnight.





Finished by putting a rivet in and it's ready to mount.

Here's the R & R of the foam.







It's all ready to install. I did a trial fit, then cleaned all the hoses and nipples and mounted it. It fits great. I haven't filled and tested it yet, but don't expect any issues. We'll see...

As a side note, the single SP1 fan is probably moving as much air as two SP2 fans.

Why not, John?

I swapped both my rads with those from an SP2. Of course I used the SP2's oil cooler as well. And I had to drill a hole on each frame's side for the SP2 rad's upper mounts and make the electrical lines from the fan's relay in the back to both fans.

About your mod, all I had to do is to manufacture a mount like #9 here so that the rad and the Horn can bolt on.
It was really easy to make it out of a flat aluminum rod in 20 minutes without risking tampering with the radiator.

I don't think the fan has a relay on the SP1? I relies on the temp switch which is threaded into the left tank of the rad. The SP2 left rad has no provision for the temp switch. I suppose you could engineer the wiring, but you still need a sensor of some sort...

On the SP2 the ECU reads the temp through the ECT sensor mounted on the thermostat housing and triggers a relay which engages the fans.
On the SP1 the ECU has nothing to do with the fan. The fan's circuit is all by itself with no relay in it. The power comes from the fuse to the fan and the fan's ground wire is interrupted by the temp switch bolted on the left radiator. Which closes once the temp is at 103 C and grounds the already powered fan.
On the SP1 the ECT sensor sends it's signal to the ECU for indication on the dash purposes only.

Right. That's why it's not really feasable to mount a SP2 Left rad to a SP1.

Re-reading what you said, the SP2 ECU controls the fans. How did you get a SP1 ECU to do that, and what about the relay?

I have replaced my TBs, airbox and ECU with those from an SP2. That's why it worked.

But you're right about that.......hmmmm

This winter I have a lot of work to do.

I'll put back my SP1 ECU and check if there is a triggering signal on it, at the same pin that the SP2's ECU trigger's the fan's relay.

I am sorry my friend if I lead you off.......didn't occur to me that you have the SP1 TB and ECU setup......

Well, that radiator has been fine. I've done one coolant flush since that installation. It's holding tip-top.
