:confused:I've read that Honda recommends 36PSI for front tire and 42PSI for rear tire, is it for every tire brand?

Im using Michelin Pilot Power and tried with low pressure (36 PSI front and rear) the bike handles great but I noted more wear in tires thread, I always ride alone and well equipped (helmet, race pants, jacket and boots).

any suggestion?

That's why they recommend those pressures, to decrease tire wear.
Also if the pressures were lowered too much and the tire carcass overheated and delaminated, they could be sued. So they err on the safe side.

The lower the pressures, the more the carcass flexes and conforms to the road surface. Great for traction, but that flex adds heat to the tire.

Track-only tires use materials and compounds that require that heat buildup (nylon carcass, less silica) while street tires do not (rayon carcass, more silica in compound).
That's the fallacy of using track/race tires on the street.
They never stay at required operating temp and degrade quicker than on the track.

For track use, you should see around 5-7 PSI difference between cold and hot pressures.
Too much pressure increase - the pressure is too low, too little increase - the pressure is too high.

For average street use, I often run around 35 PSI on the front and 38 PSI on the rear.
It's a compromise of traction and heat buildup.
If I was planning to have extended freeway riding, I would increase the pressure so the tire would run cooler, around 36 PSI for front and 39 to 40 for rear.

In my minor street riding tire pressure makes a HUGE difference in feel and how the bike reacts, I tend to run around 40/42, but try different pressures from what Honda recommends to see what you like. Then be sure to check them every week or so, they can lose alot more pressure than you think.

Of course, my dumb-a** let the bike sit for a few months once, rode it and wondered what happened to the handling only to find about 10-12 lbs up front and like 20 in the back. Not good, but all they needed was a pump-up.

If you have access to a track day Michelin rep, they could tell you.

The Dunlop rep recommended 29f/22r for Q2's on track days (600RR). I tend to run mid 30's for street on both the RR and the RC...but I'm still feeling it out. Seasons also changes things.

Take it easy on yourself there Agent Clark...you aren't the only dumb-a$$ to ever do this.

Now as for letting the bike sit for months...thats grounds for a a$$ whoopin':D


I like Agent's method. Different manufacturers tires, riding style require diffewrent pressures for sure. I check mine every time I ride.:p

No doubt, I've been riding it alot more lately. But, now I think I need a fork rebuild and need to button up my undertail. Part of its not hanging correctly...little things.

If you ride spirited, as many of us in here do, the suggestion I have for you is to find someone to ride with. It's like hiking, diving or skiing alone. You usually want a buddy when participating in high risk sports. In the event something goes bad, response time is life-savingly different. ;)

Hi. Just a quick note about tire pressures in the wet. I've been on track days in the rain where some riders have dropped the pressures in order to get the tire to heat up quicker. What happens though, is the tire deforms more (good for heat build up) but this effectively closes up the tread pattern, meaning you're running on a slick. Not good. I was told by an ex GP rider who now instructs at race schools to always run recommended pressures in the wet.

Did you find your range yet for street use on your Q2's? Subsailor said approx 35f/38r and I think he's running Q2's. I'm asking cause I got a set coming any day now.

I would go with what he said, since my Q2's are on my 600. The weight difference on the RC would have an impact on tire pressures.

And to be honest, optimal grip/pressures is also dependent on the person's riding style and preference.

IMO, I would start from 4psi down (32f/38r) and go from there.
