My Tyre is up for replacement now and I was wondering what size people use and the difference in performance between them.

It currently has a 180 on it which I know is as per the recommended spec but I usually ride with 190's on my previous I4's.

My riding colleagues were suggesting a 190 for improved grip but as the RC is more about handling I would like it to tip in nice and smooth. At the moment its horrid as the top of the tyre has almost worn flat from too much motorway riding so my leisurely countryside blasts are not so much fun.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

A 190/55R17 on the rear is your best choice for a nice rounded profile that will allow the bike to flow into corners...The taller profile given by 55 also means a rounder shape. Somewhere I read a comparison between the 3 possible rear size choices for an RC51 and this was deemed to give the best handling & feel.

I also do a fair amount of motorway miles and find a BT016 on the rear and a BT003 Race on the front to be a good combination that will wear roughly within the same mileage. These will also be great tyres for country scratching.

It's good to change both tyres at the same time, but be really careful for the first 50 miles or so as the release compound on the tyres can be very slippery to begin with.

i went to a 190/55 and absolutely love it, once you get rid of the highway strip then turns will feel so much more fluid, nothing like a new tire feel

I second that. I came off a 180/55. Now q2 190/55. Tipping into turns is more predictable and better feeling to me. If u search TIRES on this forum, you'll see most people use 190/55's. Imo.

190/55 is da best...I made the change and will not go back to the 50. My first RC had the 180 and it made the steering a little too quick for my taste.
