Which sprocket manufacture for a 15T?

3694 Views 13 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  The 'Burnian
I want to install a 15T front sprocket and perhaps a 41 or 42 rear.
I plan on keeping the 530 chain that have now; it is the original chain and only has 6,000 miles on it.
So which manufacture is the way to go for sprockets?
Does anyone know about how much it will cost to have a front and/or rear sprocket installed?

Thanks Guys.

When I replaced my chain and sprockets, I decided to try Renthal for the front.
Since I use Marchesini wheels, I have limited selection on rear sprockets since they don't use the OEM dimensions.
So for the rear I tried the hard-anodized Vortex aluminum rear.
It's supposed to last 30% longer than regular Vortex aluminum sprockets.
As always Sub, you rock!!

Do you recommend doing just the front or doing both front and rear?
What is best for the rear +1 or +2?
I live in Richmond VA, which is mostly flat with some curvy country roads.
There are very few hills here but I plan on making some trips to mountains soon.

How much did it cost you to get yours sprockets installed?
If you have the stock 40T rear, then going +1 or +2 in the rear with -1 in the front will increase performance by allowing the engine to better operate in it's power band.
I have 15F/41R, others have 42R.
The local shop in my area charged me 1 hr of labor ($65) to install the sprockets and chain.
$65, wow that is cheap!
I have been reading many posts on the subject and it looks like -1/+1 is the sweet spot.
Do you have a recommendation on a good place to buy from?
I like Competition Accessories but they don't have the Renthal or AFAM sprockets.
Many different sites have one piece but not the other.
Of course I want the cheapest price. 

Also from your posts you say stick with the 530 chain, who makes the best chain to buy, D.I.D?
I am new to bike modding so please forgive my ignorance. :)
It is hard to find a 41T rear sprocket; most people have 40 or 42.
I prefer to have Renthal or AFAM, steel would be nice for the rear but I guess there is nothing wrong with the anodized ALU.
I haven't had a problem finding 41T rear sprockets so far.

Somewhat lengthy PM sent :)
Thanks man, checking now. :)
Go to sprocketcenter.com they allow you to pick your sprocket configurations and pre cut your chain for you.
Good stuff, thanks a bunch.
Can I wade in here and ask an obvious question or five, please? Surely everyone's speedo's are now way out of whack with the sprocket changes, yes? Is the SP/RC speedo driven off the countershaft like the Firestorm/Superhawk is? So, has anyone tried these 'speedo healer' boxes I see on eBay? And are they a pain to fit and sort out?
So many questions...so little cash to act on any good advice, LOL!!
The RC51 is like most bikes these days which use a sensor off the counter-shaft.
And you're correct in that the Speedo-Healer can correct the inaccuracies.
They're not hard to install, they're a very small module (about the size of a CF memory card) that plugs into the speed sensor connectors.
Sweet. SubSailor, you're rapidly turning into my online saviour! Thanks again mate.
