Was thinking of hanging up my original plastics since they are mint and would be quite a shame if I dropped it. There are so many aftermarket "plastic" sets out there in both ABS and Fiberglass. I heard some one say here that some plastics MELT! I looked up the melting point of ABS=220F which is the temp of our cooling system and I IR'ed my pipes and see temps at 350f to 400F. Was wondering if anyone has any experience with the aftermarket stuff out there. I have seen some guys selling Fiberglass which has better ability to resist the heat.

abs929cbrrr has experience with them. I think he's installed a few sets. He would be a good one to ask cause he seems to like them.
You'll get a mised bag of opinions, but mostly people know they're pretty low quality.
But they can be cheap, compared to oem. Especailly if you want to save your OEM's.
Why not get some race plastics?

That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm collecting as availability and funds allow, and repainting/stickers.

And the chinese one's are junk. I've been around plenty of collision body guys that have first-hand experience with them. Brittle, mounting holes that have to be reamed to fit, etc. It's a lot of work to make them fit.
